October 26

eh, this one’s a little weird. some parts (like the beginning) are a little good. some parts (like a cameo from our friend Neil Hamburger) are a little uncomfortable. in any case, this one’s a lotta freeform.

in which I accidentally reveal my belief that New York City is overrated.

My Brightest Diamond AND Björk have new albums. Joy abounds.

Stick with it to get meditative with birdsong.
and a special amphibious guest animal thrown in there for good measure.
You know one thing that I like about the autumn, when the trees defoliate? You get to see all the birds’ nests that were hidden in the leaves.

On a totally unrelated note, the rest of my morning was a beautiful thing. I had to return some books to the library, and I stopped in the kids’ section to say hi to the fish. I noticed that a crowd of children had congregated in the corner and realized that it was STORY TIME! That librarian hooked me and those chillums with her songs and her hand puppets and her Filipino folk tales. The crying baby crocodile puppet with the snapping wooden mouth scared some of the kids so much that they had to be carried away, crying. Did you ever become overwhelmingly frightened by something that wasn’t real? Do you still?

October 12: HAPPY BIRTHDAY

TO ME!!

and our other October birthday Libra babies!

This show is chock-full of birthday tuneage. Seriously. Like, the whole show is one birthday song after another for an entire hour. How is that possible? The songs get a bit more upbeat about halfway through. It really confused some people when the WCBN DJ answered their phone call by wishing them a happy birthday.

But even after an hour, there remained excess birthday tuneage! DJ Double A was a gem and played another one for me during his show:

(3 1/2 minutes)
(not to be interpreted as 3 half-minutes, i.e., 1.5 minutes)
(rather, 3.5 minutes)

This one starts out all country-like.

It gets a little sad…

…and then you learn, like me, to love Grass Widow.

Leisure World is the place to be if you’re a retired swinger. I don’t mean if you’ve retired from the activity of swinging; I mean if you’re a ripe person who loves to party.

Swing to some umph from the gut. right from that diaphragm. and in the ambature. You’ll know what I’m talking about if you keep listening. bees.

P.S. Pogo never made it to the Blind Pig. He was was hassled by the Department of Homeland Security at the Canadian border on his way from Toronto. seriously.

And may I say that That 1 Guy puts on a fantastical show? Fantastic and magically fantastical. If you can play a boot and a saw and with duck puppets, you are a hero, my friend.
